The benefits of CBD

Our body already produces CBD
Our body is a complicated machine consisting of multiple systems. One of these systems is called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is responsible for producing cannabinoids in the body which help with inflammation, pain regulation, hormone release, amoung a group of things and even memory. However, as we get older, the ECS starts to decrease the production of endocannabinoids which causes a variety of side effects in the body. There are two kinds of CBD: tincture and topical. How do you know which one to take?
Although they are quite similar in that both can be effective in aiding your health, they differ in their application as well as the concentration of CBD. They also differ in their interaction with the body. Because the tincture is taken orally, it is absorbed by the mucus membranes in the mouth before it enters the bloodstream, whereas topical CBD interacts with CBD receptors in the skin.
Furthermore, tincture (CBD oil) can be found more frequently in sales as it usually contains a higher concentration of CBD. Not only is the dosage easier with the tincture, but due to its higher concentration of CBD, it is recommended for people who need a higher dosage of CBD. Brunni et al. (2015) found that “…transdermal administration allows a steady infusion of a drug to be delivered over a prolonged period of time, while also minimizing the adverse effects of higher drug peak concentrations, which can improve patient adherence”.
On the other hand, topical CBD is great for local application: “Topical administration is potentially ideal for localized symptoms, such as those found in dermatological conditions and arthritis” (Brunni et al. 2018). It is also easy to apply as it often comes in the form of a cream. However, the dosage might be a bit trickier to estimate.
In general, the dosage of both topical CBD and tincture highly depends on a variety of individual characteristics (body chemistry, weight) as well as the severity of the ailment being treated. However, it has been postulated that the most effective intake of tincture CBD is around 1000mg, whereas the most effective intake of topical CBD should be at least 750mg.
